LONGER STRAIGHTER DRIVES

Unless you live in an area of super cold weather during the winter months you can play golf, and start getting ready for Spring and warmer days. Here in the Triad area of North Carolina jump on the Spring season, in two (2) ways. First by doing some a simple, exercise routines that will quickly prepare your body to hit 350 + yard drive. SMILE. Secondly, by playing on those sunny not quite so cold days. However, most of us seem to forget that Summer or Winter we need to losen up and/or keep those long drive muscles limber.
This may not apply to you but alot of the time in the past I started the new season off with higher scores and shorter drives. Why because I sat and watch golf on tv and was not keeping the finely tuned golf machine in hitting condition. Let’s be honest. It happens more times than we would like to admit. This year lets do it different. Instead of going into Winter sleep season, keep golf in our life style with exercise and playing when you can.
Don’t let your clubs gather dust, and never ever forget about playing golf. Get your golf body in shape for spring. It’s no fun to come off the course feeling spent (in more ways than one) when you could have energy to spare. You have between 4-6 months to greatly improve your strength, flexibility and stamina. It would be the wisest thing to do to improve your golf for next season.
When we start the Spring season with an unprepared body, you’re looking at higher scores and maybe even an injury. We have to start from where we are at, physically, What works for you may not work for me or visa versa. Think of it this way. Get the edge on your playing partners and win that, first game you usually lose. Wouldn’t that get their attention? They might accuse you of taking lessons, also.
Winter is almost over, but it is not to late to start getting those long drice muscles in shape. Make up your mind to make the commitment and then do it! It’s not going to be easy – but then neither has been learning to play golf, been easy.
It’s no secret that if you get body in better shape and fitter, we swing better and hit longer drives that produce lower scores.
That’s what we all want right? What a great feeling to be out driving my regular playing buddy and straighter too. Less shots in the woods, and fewer shots in the water. Always hitting your approach shot last because you/I were the furthest down the fairway. Then again, maybe you like losing most of the time. I for one do not.
KISS. First stand up, get on your feet. We play golf on our feet, so lets exercise on our feet.
Second, you should be on the bar stole. You know that golf posture you learned before you knew how to play. Bend forward at the hips, with your knees slightly flexed. Like sitting on a bar stole. Now if we exercise in this manner we will create a better and hopefully very strong, golf swing. Which results in long drives.
Now A Note of Warning. Check with your doctor to make sure your ok to exercise. I read in one of them over priced gold publications, some years ago, about this very simple exercise.
Go to the local thrift store and get you a set of ten pound (10 lb.) dumbells.
Get in your normal golf posture. Now bend over just about another 6-8" Place the dumbbells in front of you, even with your thighs. Turn your palms inward until the face each other. Slowly raise dumbbells to your side and up as far as you can. DO NOT FORCE. Let the stretch and flexibility come slowly. Now slowly bring back down and to the starting position. Try for Five (5) sets of five (5) movements each. Take your time, go slow and relax. if it hurts to much stop.
Well there you are long drive champion. One example of a golf exercise done quickly and in your home to dramatically enhance your game!
